Base Building Guide

Build a modular research outpost on Sota7 with laboratories, greenhouses and defensive structures.

Building overview

Your base is more than shelter — it is a research facility. The laboratory module is where crossbreeding happens, and how you layout your base determines how efficiently you can run experiments, grow specimens and defend against Sota7's hazards.

The modular system

Honeycomb: The World Beyond uses a modular base building system. You place individual modules and connect them to create a functional outpost. The Steam store page confirms laboratories, greenhouses and defensive structures as module types.

Laboratory setup

The laboratory is the most important module for progression. Crossbreeding is the core mechanic of the game, and it all happens in the lab. Build one as early as possible.

See the crossbreeding guide for how to use the laboratory for grafting and allogamy experiments.

Base defense

Sota7 is home to hostile fauna that may threaten your outpost. Defensive structures are confirmed as a module type, but the specifics — what threats exist, how defense modules work, and what resources they require — are not yet documented.

Building priorities

Based on the confirmed game systems, a reasonable build order for a new outpost:

  1. Basic shelter — protection from environmental hazards
  2. Storage — capacity for collected specimens and materials
  3. Laboratory — begin crossbreeding experiments
  4. Greenhouse — sustainable specimen cultivation
  5. Defensive structures — protect against hostile fauna
  6. Expansion — additional modules based on research needs

Pre-launch note: Optimal base layouts, module costs, connection mechanics and upgrade paths will be documented after Honeycomb: The World Beyond launches on September 8, 2026.

Base building FAQ

How does base building work in Honeycomb?

Base building uses a modular system where you place and connect different modules such as laboratories, greenhouses, storage and defensive structures to create a functional research outpost.

What modules are available for base building?

Confirmed modules include laboratories (for crossbreeding), greenhouses (for growing specimens), storage modules and defensive structures. The full module list will be documented after launch.

Where should I build my base in Honeycomb?

Location strategy will depend on biome hazards, resource access and species availability. The Amber Plains is likely the safest starting location. Detailed placement guidance will be added after the game launches on September 8, 2026.

Can you move or rebuild your base?

This has not been confirmed. Whether modules can be relocated or must be rebuilt from scratch will be verified after launch.
